Here are events coming u between now and Thanksgiving at the Fall River Public Library.

What’s Happening at the Library: Thanksgiving Edition

Here’s what the library has on the schedule in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, November 10-23, 2022. We’re offering programs to suit every interest, from cooking to LEGO!

Monday Movies: Matinee movies are offered every Monday at 1 pm in the Meeting Room with our new surround sound system. On Monday, November 14, we’ll show the hit action movie Top Gun: Maverick, and on November 21, we’ll have the Jordan Peele comedy-thriller NOPE.

LEGO Raffle: All this month, visit the Children’s Room to register to win one of three LEGO building kits! The winner will be chosen on Monday, November 28 at 4 pm.

Kids’ Take-Home Crafts: Each week, a different Thanksgiving-themed craft will be available in the Children’s Room. Pick them up while supplies last. Take-home crafts are sponsored by Debby and Richard Danner.

Thursday, 11/10: Kids are invited to join us for interactive BEAM games at 4 pm. Then, we have a special program for all ages: Astro Bees, 6 pm. Visit the library tonight for a truly unique learning experience! Local beekeeper Robert Astro will demonstrate the tools of the beekeeping trade and talk about his work managing hives. It’s sure to “bee” a fascinating evening!

The library is closed on Friday, November 11 for Veterans Day but will be open on Saturday.

Saturday, 11/12: Henna at the Library, 11 am – 2 pm. Teens and tweens are invited to stop by the library between 11 am and 2 pm to get a FREE henna tattoo! This beautiful form of body art is made from natural plant dyes, is safe, and lasts approximately 7-14 days. Come and try it out! There will also be a free Covid Vaccine Clinic from 12-4 pm.

Tuesday, 11/15: Parents and children up to age 5 are welcome to join us for Preschool Storytime, 11 am every Tuesday. Adults who enjoy knitting and crocheting, please join us at our biweekly Knitting Club, 2-3 pm; and kids are invited to join us for our Beybladers Club, 4-5 pm.

Wednesday, 11/16: Our monthly Books & Tea Club will meet from 2-3:30 pm. New members welcome! Teens are invited to our weekly Magic: the Gathering meetup at 5 pm.

Thursday, 11/17: We have BEAM games for kids at 4 pm, then our Fantasy & Sci-Fi Book Club meets at 6 pm. This month’s book is Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo.

Saturday, 11/19: There will be a free Covid Vaccine Clinic from 12-4 pm.

Monday, 11/21: The Friends of the Fall River Public Library invite you to a free cooking program, Festive Holiday Soups, at 6 pm. Learn how to make delicious, home-made soups with seasonal ingredients such as butternut squash, apples, and pumpkin.

Tuesday, 11/22: Join us for Preschool Storytime at 11 am. Then, in the evening, families are invited to try their hand at building a LEGO bridge for a very special Family Lego Night at 6 pm. Teams will compete to see who can build a bridge that supports a 10-pound weight! Fall River’s City Engineer, Dan Aguiar, will judge. Registration is required for this event; call the Children’s Room at 508-324-2700.

Wednesday, 11/23: The library will close at 5 pm for the Thanksgiving holiday and will be closed Thursday, 11/24 and Friday, 11/25. We will reopen on Saturday, 11/26 for our usual hours, 9 – 4:30 pm.
