A Colorful Week at the Library: August 16-20, 2021

Summer’s not over yet! There are still lots of fun things happening at the Fall River Public Library this week for kids, teens, and adults.

Starting Monday, August 16, kids can pick up a Magic Color Scratch Fish in the Children’s Room. Scratch off the coating and reveal a rainbow of amazing colors. They will be available all week or while supplies last.

If you love comics and superheroes, be sure to visit the library on Monday, August 16 at 11 am to Meet the Amazing Spider-Man! Spidey will be swinging by to greet fans and pose for pictures from 11 to noon. Kids can also choose a free comic book during their visit! Free comic books will be available all week, or while supplies last, but Spidey will only be here on Monday morning, so don’t miss him! This event is sponsored by our friends at Game King.

Also on Monday, we have a colorful night planned: it’s Tie-Dye Night with To Dye For Tees, August 16 from 6-8 pm! Teens 13 and up are invited to create their own tie-dyed shirt. All materials are provided. Registration is required for this program, and it is currently full, but you can add yourself to the waiting list. Visit fallriverlibrary.org and sign up on our Teen Events page.

Next, on Tuesday, August 17, at 11 am, experience a circus like no other when the Cactus Head Puppets present MONSTER CIRCUS! Encounter magnificent creatures from the wilds of your imagination as their human caretaker tries to teach them new tricks! These are a bunch of friendly, colorful monsters that really know how to put on a show. Bring your blanket to spread on the lawn and enjoy the fun!

On Wednesday, August 18, at 11 am, join us under the Elm Street Story Tent as we share the story of Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister and other tales from under the sea. The storytime will feature a take-home craft, and each child attending will receive a cuddly, plush fish! This event is sponsored in part by Cymry’s Christmas Wish.

Also on Wednesday, we have a Magic: the Gathering meetup from 5-6:30 pm. Players age 12 and up are invited to join in the game. Beginners are welcome! For more information, call Taylor at 508-324-2700, ext. 123, or Kayla at 508-324-2700, ext. 3, or email tsilva@sailsinc.org.

Wednesday, August 18 is the third Wednesday of the month, so that means it’s Book Club day at the library! Our afternoon Books & Tea Club meets at 2 pm in the Meeting Room. All readers are invited to share a book they’ve enjoyed recently and to get recommendations from other readers. Light refreshments will be served. Then, at 6 pm, our Fall River Library Book Club meets in the Meeting Room to discuss this month’s book, The Other Einstein by Marie Benedict.

Thursday, August 19 brings a free family concert featuring Will Parker at 11 am. Everyone is invited to bring a blanket or towel to spread on the lawn and snacks to enjoy during Will’s lively, toe-tapping show. This concert is sponsored by Debby and Richard Danner.

Finally, all our summer readers are invited to join us for the End of Summer Party at 11 am on Friday, August 20. All the children who participated in our Tales & Tails summer reading program will receive a reading certificate and book prize and be entered into our summer reading raffle for exciting prizes, including a bike!

The morning will also feature a performance by “Professor Tony Baloney’s World of Magic and Make-Believe!” Parents are invited to spread their blankets on the lawn and bring snacks to this event.

For more information on any of these events, visit the Fall River Public Library online at fallriverlibrary.org, follow us on Facebook, or call 508-324-2700.
