Here is the latest list of events coming up at the Fall River Public Library.

This Week at the Library –October 26-October 30

It’s Halloween week! And to celebrate the spooky season at the Fall River Public Library, we’ve got another fun Halloween-themed curbside craft for kids, a Zooming Witch on a Broomstick toy. Kids can have fun making these and then watching their witch zoom away on her broomstick with wheels. Pick these up at the Main Library by calling 508-324-2700, ext. 4, or at the South Branch by calling 508-324-2708.

If you haven’t yet seen it, head over to YouTube to watch the library’s new Halloween show, “A Ghostly Gathering at the Haunted Library!” You can see it on our Facebook page or at https://youtu.be/KaLfC5oQBKQ.

If you know a teen that likes to draw, let them know about our Virtual Teen Art Group. It meets the first and last Wednesday afternoons of each month on the library’s Discord server and is a way for artists 12-18 to share their works in progress with other teens. For a code to join, email Taylor at tsilva@sailsinc.org or call 508-324-2700, ext. 123.

Teens are also invited to join an online multiplayer game of Splatoon 2 on Wednesday, October 28 at 5 pm. To sign up, email Taylor at tsilva@sailsinc.org or call 508-324-2700, ext. 123. All participants must own their own copy of Splatoon 2, with an internet connection. Participants are invited to join our Game Night Discord server, which will be provided after contacting Taylor!

For adults, this is the last week to join our online Haunted Places class, which is part of Universal Class, a free distance learning program provided by the library. In this self-paced course, which runs until October 30, you’ll take a virtual tour of some of the world’s most famous haunted sites, then join in with the library’s local chat group to share your own stories. Call Betsy at the South Branch Library, 508-324-2708, for more information.

This week, adults can also join with the Somerset and Swansea libraries for an online book discussion of “The Book of Life and Death” by Grace Talusan, part of the Boston Book Festival’s “One City, One Story” program. Pick up a free booklet of this short story at any of the participating libraries, read it, and join in the live Zoom discussion on Monday, October 26 at 6:30 p.m. A registration link can be found on the library’s Facebook page or online calendar, or email kkulpa@sailsinc.org for more information. If you want to explore the mysteries of tarot and oracle cards, the library’s Zen Zone program for the month is an Oracle Card Day on Wednesday, October 28! You will have the opportunity to check out the library’s collection of both oracle and tarot cards. See what advice these cards have to offer. During this event you will have a chance to pick a mystery oracle card. Later on, you will find out the meaning of the card that you chose! Come check out this intuitive tool. Visit us on Facebook to take part.

Just a reminder that the Main Library is open 9-5 on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays and open 9-7 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The South Branch is open 9-5 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and open 9-7 on Wednesdays. Both libraries are open for visits by appointment, but curbside pickup is also available. Call 508-324-2700 (Main) or 508-324-2708 (South) to plan a visit or arrange a pickup.
