A non-profit agency in Massachusetts called Mass Save, can help you cut down on your electricity bills as summer comes to a close.
From the Mass Save website here are a few tips to reduce energy costs:
- Shut the lights off when you leave the room
- Unplug electronics such as laptops, tablets, cell phones, and cordless power tools once they’re charged. Charging adapters plugged into outlets use energy even if they’re not actively charging the devices.
- Use an Advanced Power Strip (APS) for your home entertainment equipment. Many homes have multiple TVs and computers, all connected to assorted devices such as DVD players, game consoles, surround sound systems, etc. An APS can help easily manage your electronics to use less energy. Get a great deal on Advanced Power Strips through our online catalog.
- Use the power management settings on your computer and monitor so they go into power save mode when not in use.
- Switch to ENERGY STAR® certified compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs or light emitting diode (LED) bulbs. CFLs use up to 75% less energy and LEDs use up to 90% less energy than incandescent bulbs. By switching from an incandescent bulb to a CFL, you can save $8.23 per year* or $8.76 per year* with an LED.
*Assumes 3.2 hours of daily use at $0.15 cost per kWh.
