Duro Workers Picketing Today

Donna Motta September 2, 2016 1

The 157 workers who have been laid off after their July vacation shutdown are picking today on Bay Street in between Duro’s facilities located on Chace Street and Globe Mills Avenue.

The workers are concerned, of course, because they have no idea if the layoffs are permanent or not. The UNITE HERE Local 1208T and 1226T members, do not know if their pensions are gone in addition to their paychecks.

Numerous phone calls to the head of the Human Resources Department Peter Ricci have not been returned to FRC Media News.

The layoffs at Duro are not new, however. In 2006, sixty (60) workers lost their jobs when Duro closed one of its plants.

Director of the Fall River Career Center Joe Viana says, his employees are working diligently to train Duro employees in other fields, and to help them find employment should they not be rehired.
