A 16 year old student at BMC Durfee High School was arrested a half hour after a photograph of a gun was ‘put on there’ on ‘Snapchat’ a social media cite, which included the caption, “At Durfee,” and which was ultimately seen by numerous Durfee students around 11:30 a.m. today.

An FRC Media News source told us this afternoon that school security officers and Fall River police worked diligently to find and arrest the student who had left the building after the 11:30 a.m. snapchat sighting. When police found the young man, they also discovered a bee bee gun in his possession. Because the student is a juvenile, his name cannot be released, but criminal charges were filed.

While BMC Durfee High School was closed at 11:40 a.m. today, the school will re-open as usual tomorrow morning, only with precautions in place. According to our source, one safety protocol will be that students will have to produce identification to show they are a student at the school. There will also be an increased police presence.

City, police, and school officials will continue to monitor the safety issues tied into the schools in our city in order to keep students, faculty, and staff safe.

In addition, School Superintendent Dr. Matt Malone went immediately to Durfee upon hearing about the incident, and talked to distraught parents in the cafeteria, telling them that the situation was contained in less than an hour.
