Durfee High School Construction Update

Fall River Mayor Jasiel Correia II is asking city councilors to approve funding for the construction of a new B.M.C. Durfee High School. The nine member body is expected to vote on this request at their January 9th, 2018 meeting.

Back in November, school committee members unanimously voted to approve the construction of a new building that is in much needed repair. Chief Operating Officer for the School Department Ken Pacheco says, by state law the school committee is responsible to vote to approve the project, but is not responsible for funding the $260 million dollar proposed plan, adding that the fiscal responsibility falls on the mayor. Pacheco is hoping that a special election be scheduled for some time in March to ask registered voters for their support. FRC Media News will have more details as they become available.
