Mayor Sutter announced today that his administration will be placing an increased focus on reducing litter in the city. Following a successful city-wide clean up put together by his office in June, Mayor Sutter lay the groundwork for his plans for improving the city’s cleanliness going forward.
“The week-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of the battleship USS Massachusetts coming to Fall River serves as a perfect opportunity for the city to re-focus and redouble its efforts to clean up our parks, streets, and sidewalks,” Mayor Sutter said.
The program is an awareness campaign meant to better inform the people of Fall River – particularly the city’s youth – about the benefits of recycling and maintaining a clean city. Mayor Sutter plans to lend his voice to the program, and facilitate greater community involvement with their initiatives, while also taking the initial steps towards a comprehensive city-wide plan.
In the coming weeks, Mayor Sutter plans to reveal his all-encompassing cleanliness initiative. The plan will be comprised of measures that are meant to beautify the entirety of the city. This comprehensive measure aims to create an litter-free Fall River community.
“Creating a cleaner city is a priority of my administration. Removing litter not only makes the city look better, but it also creates a higher quality of life and enables us to attract more economic development to Fall River. We cannot do this alone. Together, with the help of all citizens, we can create a cleaner Fall River that we are proud to call home,” Mayor Sutter says.
