Democratic Candidate for attorney general Quentin Palfrey is looking to use his experience as a lawyer for former Attorney General Maura Healey and the Obama and Biden administrations as a springboard to securing the state’s top law enforcement job.
Palfrey, who will face former Boston City Councilor Andrea Campbell and Attorney Shannon Liss-Riordan in the Democratic Primary, says his overarching issue in the race is ensuring the office of attorney general is independent of special interests.
Palfrey wants to enhance strong state laws across a number of issues, one of which is abortion. He says the Commonwealth has a strong abortion rights bill that needs support in light of last month’s Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade. He also says the state will need to keep an eye on other language within the court’s abortion ruling.
Palfrey also wants to strengthen the state’s regulation of guns.
Palfrey hopes to use the attorney general’s office as a force to drive meaningful state action on climate change. He says, too often, gateway cities like Fall River fall prey to polluters.
Palfrey feels his role as attorney general should also involve law enforcement efforts in cities and towns.
