CPA Funding May Be Used For Public Library Roof Repair

An article in today’s Fall River Herald News reports that the Fall River City Council Subcommittee on Public Works and Transportation this week voted to recommend the use of Community Preservation Act funding to pay for emergency roof repairs at the public library on North Main Street.

The full council still needs to vote on the Correia Administration’s proposed order however, yet again. $375 thousand dollars is the amount needed to fix the roof, which desperately needs to be repaired because of water leakage that has already caused damage to the interior of the historic building.

If the council approves the CPA funding request, that will leave only $110 thousand dollars in the emergency reserve account, down from $485 thousand dollars. Initially, according to today’s Herald report, the full council had recommended the money for repairs come from the city’s $1.3 million dollar reserve account, or from the approximately $7 million in the stabilization account.

FRC Media News has a call out to the city’s  Director of Financial Services Mary Sahady, to ask why the administration did not recommend using city funding for this necessary emergency repair project.
