Parents at the Argosy Collegiate Charter School have been advised that classes for today and tomorrow will be held fully remote after reports of COVID cases surfaced at the school.

The school had been operating under a model of both in-person and remote learning.  Executive Director Kristen Pavao sent parents the following email this morning:

Between last evening and this morning, we were notified of the following:

  • One staff member has tested positive for COVID-19
  • One staff member was identified as a close contact of another individual who tested positive for COVID-19
  • One scholar was identified as a close contact of another individual who tested positive for COVID-19

All persons who have been in close contact have been notified and are following up with testing. In an abundance of caution, both school campuses are closed today to all staff. Electrostatic cleaning, while not required, took place this morning on both sites.

As a result, we will be pivoting our instructional model to a fully remote model for 100% of our scholars. In this model, there will be no scholars attending in-person.

For the remainder of this week, scholars should continue to follow the same schedule they have been following since the start of the school year. All scholars are expected to uphold academic expectations regarding grades, attendance, and conduct. If your child does not already have Zoom links for virtual classes, teachers will be reaching out to scholars to communicate links later today.

Yesterday, Mayor Coogan announced that Fall River will again be in the red zone for COVID-19, according to the Department of Public Health. This week’s DPH report will be released later this afternoon. All of these indicators are reviewed on multiple levels as we continue to work with and receive guidance from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Center for Disease Control, the Department of Public Health and our educational partners in our community. This data, in conjunction with a review of the health and well-being of the Argosy Collegiate community, will be used to determine if there is a need to continue 100% remote learning beyond this week.

We continue to be impressed with the efforts of our staff, scholars, and families to maximize learning opportunities in these extremely challenging times. The impacts of the pandemic to the entire community are recognized. If there is anything we can do to support you or your child in remote learning, please reach out. Let’s work together to make the best of a difficult situation for all.

Respectfully,

Kristen Pavao
Executive Director
