This week the Fall River City Council gave initial approval to an ordinance to legalize residential short-term rentals.

City corporation counsel Alan Rumsey told the council’s Committee on Ordinances and Legislation that rentals such as those found on Airbnb and VRBO are currently against the law in Fall River. He recommends the council enact the following guidelines to allow homeowners to offer short-term rentals.

Those wishing to offer short-term rentals must register with the city and follow local zoning and public safety guidelines. Attorney Rumsey says once established, the city can benefit from an increase in revenue the rentals will generate

Councilors are seeking additional terms requiring owners to carry commercial liability insurance.
