Last night the Fall River City Council Committee on Public Safety held a meeting to ascertain the city’s readiness to respond to emergencies when South Coast Rail begins service in Fall River next week.
MBTA Projects Manager Jean Fox says for nine months municipal public safety organizations have been training to respond to emergencies related to rail service.
Fall River Fire Chief Jeffrey Bacon says his department is ready to take on the responsibility of responding to emergencies along the tracks but is looking ahead to expansion once work reconstructing Davol Street is complete.
The depot station on Davol Street will be patrolled by Fall River Police, with plans to surveil the area as if a new business opened in the city.
