The Fall River City Council’s committee on public safety held a meeting this week to ascertain the city’s readiness to respond to emergencies when South Coast Rail begins service in Fall River next week.
MBTA projects manager Jean Fox says that municipal public safety organizations have been trained to respond to emergencies related to rail service for nine months.
Fall River Fire Chief Jeffrey Bacon says his department is ready to respond to emergencies along the tracks but is looking ahead to expansion once work reconstructing Davol Street is complete.
The depot station on Davol Street will be patrolled by Fall River police, with plans to surveil the area as if a new business opened in the city.
The first trains out of Fall River to Boston in 65 years will be this Monday.
