Management changes will be in effect soon for the John C. Corrigan Mental Health Center located at 49 Hillside Street in Fall River.
Starting in May, the state will no longer control ER services, handing that responsibility over to The Boston Medical Center. It is unknown if emergency services will be offered at Corrigan, another Fall River location, or elsewhere in the area.
BMC is currently considering a number of options in terms of service location, including the original Corrigan site, according to BMC spokesman Jenny Eriksen-Leary.
Fall River Police Captain Joseph Cabral said the biggest change, as far as he is aware, is that walk-in patients to Corrigan will not be eligible for services. He adds, that BMC will continue to work with police, as well as health care institutions and schools to serve patients in need.
The State Department of Mental Health will continue to operate Corrigan’s in-patient psychiatric hospital, counseling services, and other mental health programs.
The State DMH in 2016 asked for bids to privatize emergency mental health services at Corrigan and two other similar facilities in southeastern Massachusetts.
