Former Fall River Mayor Jasiel Correia, in federal prison since 2022 for his conviction on corruption charges, is preparing to be moved to a halfway house where he will likely serve the remainder of his sentence.

According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Correia was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Residential Reentry Management (RRM) facility in New York. This RRM serves the judicial districts in the northeast, including Massachusetts, where Correia was tried.

A RRM is a facility that provides transitional housing and support services for individuals transitioning from incarceration back into the community, with the typical placement occurring in the last 6 to 12 months of their sentence. Correia is slated to be released in July of 2026.

The New York RRM manages residential reentry centers (also known as halfway houses) in southern New York, eastern New York, and New Jersey. It is unknown which reentry center Correia will be placed.

FRCMedia legal analyst attorney Steven Sabra says moving the former mayor during the late stages of his sentence is not uncommon.

Correia was last housed at the Federal Correctional Institution, Ashland, in eastern Kentucky.

Attorney Sabra says even though Correia is slated to be released in July, being in a reentry facility could result in his being released earlier.

Correia was convicted in 2021 of defrauding investors of his SnoOwl app business and seeking payments from potential recreational marijuana vendors in exchange for a favorable recommendation to state regulators.
