U.S. District Court Judge Douglas Woodlock has again granted another delay in when former Fall River Mayor Jasiel Correia is to report for prison on his federal fraud and extortion convictions.
Correia was slated to report tomorrow to the Federal Bureau of Prisons facility in Berlin, NH to begin serving his six-year sentence. Judge Woodlock has delayed his reporting date to February 13.
This is the third time Correia’s reporting date has been delayed. He originally was expected to report in early December, but family holiday work commitments and COVID concerns forced the delays.
A federal jury last May convicted Correia of 21 of 24 counts of fraud in connection with the operation of his SnowOwl app business and extortion in seeking money from potential recreational marijuana vendors seeking to operate in the city. Judge Woodlock threw out many of the fraud convictions, citing the prosecution did not fully prove its case.
Correia has appealed his convictions in the First U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. He still has a motion before Judge Woodlock seeking a stay of his sentence pending the completion of his appeal. Judge Woodlock has indicated that he will rule on that motion in time for any action before the appellate court.
