Fall River Corporation Counsel Joe Macy is reviewing the contract, and work of a Rhode Island real estate consultant hired by Mayor Jasiel Correia II last year to help sell the abandoned Bedford Street police station, and other city-owned properties. Scott Veloso of Penrose Commercial was hired last spring at a rate of $24 thousand dollars to market, find buyers, and close sales of the targeted properties. That did not happen.
City Councilors recently approved a resolution, cosponsored by City Councilors Cliff Ponte and Ray Mitchell, to have Macy review the consultant’s contract to determine if the $24 thousand dollars can be recouped. Ponte, himself a city real estate broker, maintains that Veloso was not licensed to market or sell real estate in Massachusetts.
Veloso had also been asked to appear at a city council meeting a few months back to update them on any progress he had made to date, but he was a no show.
