The two candidates seeking to become Fall River’s next mayor squared off in a debate last night hosted by FRCMedia. Incumbent Mayor Paul Coogan is seeking his fourth term and is being challenged by Gabriel Boomer Amaral.
The stabbing of former Mayor Will Flanagan this week was front and center during the first question of the debate as the candidates were asked whether they feel Fall River is a safe city.
The candidates differed on how they plan to create more affordable housing units for city residents.
Both candidates were asked how they would efficiently handle the city’s budget, which currently sits at over $500 million.
The person elected as mayor in two weeks will have a significant say in how the land freed up after the completion of Route 79’s reconstruction is developed.
