Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC) Commissioner Toni Wolf has asked the independent living centers in Southeastern Massachusetts to coordinate a community listening session to brainstorm about the vocational needs of individuals with disabilities in view of potential changes in the way services are delivered.
MRC is planning to enter an order of selection, a process required by the federal government when a state agency anticipates that it will not have sufficient funds to fully serve all eligible individuals. If implemented, the process would mean that people with the most significant disabilities would be served first. Current MRC consumers would not be affected, according to information released by the Southeast Center for Independent Living, Inc. (SCIL) in Fall River.
The listening session will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. on November 14 at White’s of Westport, 66 State Road, Westport. It will be hosted by SCIL, Independence Associates, Inc., Cape Organization for Rights of the Disabled, and the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission.
MRC community partners and consumers are welcome to attend. For more information, call 508-679-9210.
