The union that represents faculty and professional staff at the state’s 15 community colleges, including Bristol Community College in Fall River, is seeking action by the legislature to fund its collective bargaining agreement.
The Massachusetts Community College Council (MCCC) is asking the legislature to pass a supplemental budget that includes money for a two-year contract that began in July of 2021 and ended this past June.
At a rally in support of the MCCC this week, Bristol chapter president Michael Geary said the union has remained committed to its support of students through difficult times and deserves to have its contract funded.
Bristol professor of sociology and MCCC statewide secretary Colleen Avedikian said not only is the union dealing with a lack of funding for a recently expired contract but is being slighted as it works toward its next agreement.
Other Bristol union and non-union employees were on hand at the rally to offer support, including Bristol President Dr. Laura Douglas.
It is expected that the legislature will take up the supplemental budget bill sometime later this month.
