The Commission on Disability met this week to discuss the city’s progress on making Fall River more user friendly for people with disabilities.
Julianne Kelly from the non-profit organization Mass in Motion was the guest speaker. She explained that a grant her organization recently received is being used to ensure that people are getting enough nutrition and exercise to avoid deadly diseases like heart problems and diabetes, but that’s not all:
The city’s Department of Community Maintenance is doing construction and renovation work around Fall River that that includes putting braille guidepost plates on walls and doors in city hall to indicate department names, room numbers, etc; counters that wheelchair bound people can access without problems, curb side improvement to make it easier for wheelchair bound residents to cross the street, among other improvements.
