The Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School Committee last week passed a FY 2025 budget for the district totaling $32.4 million.
The spending plan is $1.6 million more than this year’s budget. Superintendent/Director Brian Bentley says the school’s money from the state and the four communities in the district, Fall River, Somerset, Swansea and Westport is solely based on student population, with the community cost fluctuating yearly.
The total student population at Diman is up over a year ago, increasing the amount of aid the school receives.
Fall River’s total assessment for FY 2025 is $4.7 million, down from $4.9 million this year. The decrease is attributed to higher state reimbursement for transportation and a reduction in costs in the construction of the new high school. However, Mr. Bently says communities will see an increase in their construction assessments beginning next year.
Mr. Bentley says the school has budgeted for projected union salary increases, even though all three union contracts are set to expire in June of this year. Mr. Bentley is confident that new contracts with all three unions will be reached before the new school year.
