The City of Fall River is dedicating funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to help city veterans make ends meet. It is also organizing a veterans holiday giveaway.
Mayor Paul Coogan and the City Council this fall approved $250,000 be set aside to meet the basic needs of city veterans.
City veterans have not seen any measurable increases in aid from the state or Federal government and any additional assistance will help ease the burden of coping with increased costs.
The Veterans Services department is also lending a hand to veterans during the holiday season.
Veterans interested in applying for the financial assistance program or receiving a holiday stocking can call the Veterans Services Department at 508-324-2432.
Donations to the Veterans holiday stocking giveaway can be dropped off at the Veterans Services office on the fourth floor of Government Center. Distribution of the stockings will take place next Thursday, December 21 from 3pm to 6:30pm at Government Center.
