City Union to Vote Today

A vote will be taken September 8th by members of the city’s union on whether to split into two groups.

Members of the local chapter of the American Federation of State, County, Municipal Employees Local 3177(AFSCME) were invited to cast their votes at the Police Community Room at police headquarters on Pleasant Street between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. this afternoon.

When contacted by phone, Union President Rachel Rapoza had no comment on the matter. Ms. Rapoza refused to say whether a meeting or a vote was scheduled for today, although she did tell say that if such a vote or a change in union rules would take place she would speak at that time.

Sources close to frcconnect.org contend that should the local union membership decide to split it would probably result in more representation for city workers with less membership numbers within their job description.

More details as they become available.
