This week the city council learned that the Coogan Administration is speaking with the American Numismatic Society, which curates a research collection and library dedicated to the study of coins, currency, medals, tokens, and related objects, to move its operation from New York City into the Bank Street Armory in Fall River.
Mayor Coogan says discussions are in the preliminary stage.
Earlier this year the city council rejected a bid to sell the historic armory to a local developer seeking to convert it into a mix of market-rate and affordable housing. Some councilors would like the city to restore the building for community use.
