The city will soon once again own an abandoned city school building.
In 2014 the city sold the Davol School on Flint Street to the Flint Neighborhood Association for just over $5,000. The organization planned to repair the building and use it as a community center. Under the agreement, if the property was not rehabilitated, the city could retain ownership.
Mayor Paul Coogan says the property has been used primarily by residents willing to pay for off-street parking. He is looking at ways the building can benefit the neighborhood.
The Gates of Hope food pantry used the building to store supplies. The mayor says the interior of the building is not safe and he is willing to work with the organization to find another location for its pantry.
