Fall River city councilors will vote to confirm provisional Fire Chief John Lynch’s promotion and contract at its meeting tonight. If the confirmation is made, that would place the 30 year veteran fire fighter in permanent status in the rank of Chief.
Lynch served in the provisional fire chief position after former Fire Chief Robert Viveiros retired after serving three years on the job. Lynch was appointed by Mayor Jasiel Correia II to appoint Lynch to take his place in a temporary capacity.
Lynch’s new contract has already been drafted by Mayor Correia, Lynch and the City’s Corporation Counsel Joe Macy. The three year document that was signed on November 3rd will commence tonight with City Council approval. The full council has been forwarded a copy of the contract.
Lynch will head up the city’s fire, emergency management and medical services divisions under the supervision of Correia. According to the terms of the contract, Lynch will receive a $150,041 annual salary.
Lynch will be the second fire chief hired under civil service regulations since a home-rule petition was enacted in 2012, reverting the hiring process from a mayoral to an appointed system.
