Although Mayor Jasiel Correia II held a news conference this week to announce the creation of a new Substance Abuse Coordinator Position, the city council voted against the decision on January 12th.

Mayor Correia wanted to appoint Michael Aguiar for the post, saying he was going to fund the position by not filling a vacant job at Government Center, and by using grant monies to pay Aguiar’s salary.

In a recent blog, Correia said if the grant monies were not available, the position would not be either. The council voted six to three against creating the position.
