Fall River City Councilor Raymond Mitchell has submitted a resolution that would require that all travel expenses of $1,000 or more must have city council approval. The resolution comes just after the resignation of the city’s Substance Abuse Grants Coordinator Mike Aguiar, who was found to have spent several thousand dollars attending a New York City conference in 2016.
The resolution may not have the support of City Council members to place into ordinance, but a resolution involving staff travel expenses is heading to the Committee on Ordinances and Legislation for discussion after a vote during Tuesday’s meeting.
If an ordinance is not supported by his fellow councilors, Mitchell said he’s just satisfied that there is a public discussion about the issue.
