The Fall River City Council, on a 6-3 vote, rejected Mayor Jasiel Correia’s FY 2017 budget proposal.  The document now goes back to the Mayor for review.

Councillors Richard Cabeceiras, Shawn Cadime, Steven Camara, Raymond Mitchell, Linda Pereira, and Cliff Ponte voted against the budget resolution.  Councillors Joseph Camara, Pam Laliberte-Lebeau, and Steven Long voted in favor.

If the Mayor does not resubmit a budget plan with city council approval by next Friday, the city will not have a spending plan in place when the new fiscal year begins July 1st.  Under that scenario, the city will be working on a 1/12 budget each month, based on the numbers in the FY 2016 budget.
