A special meeting of the Fall River City Council will convene at 5:15 p.m. this Wednesday, September 17th, at One Government Center. The topic: To discuss legal strategy regarding Mayor Jasiel Correia II.
While the session will start with Citizen Input time, the meeting that follows has been updated from “possible Executive Session” to a definite “Executive Session,” according to an updated agenda by the City Clerk’s Office this afternoon.
Due to the 24 federal indictments against the mayor – the latest including extortion and bribery charges – Council President Cliff Ponte, Jr. has deemed himself Acting Mayor after the council voted 8-1 last week to temporarily remove Correia from Office. While the mayor was expected to turn in his keys last Friday, he has refused. Since that refusal, Cliff called for this week’s special meeting to discuss the council’s legal strategy moving forward.
