This week, the Fall River City Council’s Finance Committee received a presentation from the Department of Community Utilities on the proposed FY 2026 Sewer and Water Department budgets, which include proposed rate increases for property owners.

Paul Ferland, the Administrator of Community Utilities, says the proposed budget calls for an increase in sewer rates of just below five (5) percent and a hike in water rates of eight (8) percent.

Under the proposed budget, the average homeowner in Fall River is expected to see a total fee increase of $39.22 over FY 2025.

Before the presentation, city resident Sara Carvalho expressed concern about how sewer and water rate increases over the years have impacted her cost of living.

The city council is expected to vote on the budget and rate increases later this spring.
