The city council this week held a discussion with the Coogan Administration on ways it can expand tax relief to local seniors.
Low-income seniors can receive a tax exemption of up to $500 if they meet certain income and asset limits. The rates of the exemption have been in place for many years and city councilor Linda Pereira feels now is the time to take a look at making changes.
The council will wait for more information from the administration on the impacts of raising exemptions before taking action prior to enacting the FY 2024 city budget.
