Seventeen candidates running for Fall River City Council gave their views on a wide range of issues at a forum hosted last night by FRCMedia.

The forum was split into two panels. During the first panel, candidates were asked for specifics on which items in the city budget they would like increased and those they would like to see decreased.

That first panel also gave its views on curbing youth violence, the city’s role in housing migrants, rent control, raising taxes each year under Proposition 2 1/2, whether the city should invest in new housing or rehabbing existing homes and the usability of city streets and sidewalks.

On the second panel, candidates gave their views on affordable housing, public safety, and general city spending.

This second panel also shared their thoughts on how they plan to campaign the last three weeks until election day, how the city should handle its homeless population, their understanding of the role of the city council, whether the city is prepared for a terrorist emergency and their general top priorities running for office.

City Councilor Laura Washington was the lone candidate not to attend the forums. She was recently married and is away on her honeymoon.

You can watch a replay of the two forums on demand on our dedicated Election 2023 webpage.
