A new city position was approved at last night’s City Council meeting. With Council President Shawn Cadime not present, there was a 6-2 vote to approve a new position that means Department of Community Maintenance Director Ken Pachecco is not longer in that position, but is now the new Director of Buildings and Grounds – at a pay cut.

Councilors Ray Mitchell and Richard Cabeciras voted no, while councilors Linda Perreira – after a brief hesitation – Pam Laliberte-lebeau, Joseph Camara, Steve Long, Steve Camara and Cliff Ponte voting yes.

There has been much controversy over whether to approve the position and even whether to go along with Mayor Jasiel Correia’s plan to reorganize city government. Mayor Correia says the reorganization will save the city money, but many councilors have stated they have not been given sufficient information on specifics.

Councilor Cabeceiros recently told frcmeidanews.org that his research does not correlate with Correia’s statement that his proposed reorganization will save the city money.

“I want more research presented to the city council,” he says, “before I can approve the plan.”
