Fall River Mayor Paul Coogan this week announced the winners of this year’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Art and Essay during a ceremony at Government Center.

MLK Essay Contest Winners and Public Gallery
(FALL RIVER, MA- January 27th, 2022)- After consideration of over 300 entries to the Mayor’s MLK Art & Essay contest, panelists have chosen the winners of the contest. Mayor Paul Coogan thanks students and their families for the phenomenal participation in this contest. The winners, listed below, were acknowledged at a small ceremony on January 26th.
Elementary School

Middle School
o 1st Place: Sam B. of Espirito Santo
o 2nd Place: Cecilia C. of Saint Michael’s

High School
o 1st Place: Roman L.
o 2nd Place: Jasmin Z. of Durfee
o 3rd Place: Keivon F. of Durfee
Student entries responded to the prompt “Words with Martin: What would you talk about if you had the chance to meet Martin luther King Jr.?”. Elementary schoolers entered pieces of art while middle and high school students submitted poems, essays and spoken word recordings. Entries to the elementary school art category have been placed in the windows on both the sides of City Hall atrium to create the MLK Contest Gallery. Students, their families and other residents are welcome to visit the gallery in City Hall and enjoy the art.
