At a press conference at noon today, Fall River City Administrator Cathy Ann Viveiros announced she is running in the November 5th final election as a write-in candidate for mayor. Ms. Viveiros made this announcement one day after Mayor Jasiel Correia II told a packed media audience that he has decided to forego his re-election campaign, and will take a temporary leave of absence from his fiscal responsibilities that come with the city’s top post.
Calling herself an eternal optimist, Ms. Viveiros contends she decided to run as a write-in candidate because she said: “I want to be the next Mayor of the Great City of Fall River.”
She also said she wants to give voters a chance to chose their next mayor and have the opportunity to change what she termed the “Failed economic experience of the city’s past.”

Even though Mayor Correia has temporarily removed himself from office – with pay; he earns $119,000 a year – his name will still appear on the final election ballot along with challenger Paul Coogan, and now Viveiros.
