Charter Commission Update

Even though Fall River’s newly elected Charter Commission will not officially take office until January, a meeting will be held November 16th to get the ball rolling.

The purpose of the meeting will be to administer the oath of office to the candidates voted into office this month, and to elect a chair, vice chair, and clerk from the Charter Commission members.

City Councilor Mike Miozza has been working for several years to get a question on the ballot asking voters to agree to a Charter Commission review. That happened this month and the answer was “Yes.”The  document that specifies the structure and roll of city Government. Unlike other cities in the Commonwealth, Fall River’s Charter has not been reviewed in approximately 80 years.

Tonight’s meeting will take place at 5:00 p.m. at Government Center in the City Council Chambers. The public is invited to attend.
