Catholic Charities Diocese of Fall River this week hosted a regional conference by Catholic Charities USA on how local chapters can help those in need in the event of a local or regional disaster.
Catholic Charities USA Vice President for Disaster Operations Kim Burgo says disasters often occur at a moment’s notice and local relief agencies should be prepared.
Diocesan Catholic Charities Executive Director Susan Mazzarella says disasters come in many forms and she is looking to develop a blueprint for responding to disasters.
Ms. Mazzarella says aside from disasters, Catholic Charities continues to service the homeless and housing insecure and those seeking basic needs.
The organization relies on grants and government support to provide its services and receives 15 percent of the money collected from the Diocese’s annual Catholic Charities Appeal.
Catholic Charities Diocese of Fall River also accepts personal donations which can be targeted to a specific program or can be spread among the organbization’s areas of need. Find out more by calling 508-674-4681.
