Bristol Community College has released its fall events sponsored by its Holocaust and Genocide Center.

From Bristol Community College:

Please join the Bristol Community College Holocaust and Genocide Center for informative and thought-provoking programming throughout the fall season.

With the exception of the Emperor of Atlantis fundraiser event, on Sunday, October 13, all other events are free and open to everyone in the community.

Bristol’s Holocaust and Genocide Center sponsors speakers, workshops, conferences and maintains a library of Holocaust and genocide material for use by the college community and the public.

The Bristol Community College Holocaust and Genocide Center also provides historical information, educational experiences, and multimedia resources to communicate the suffering, pain and death of innocent millions who were impacted by the Holocaust and other genocides.

Thursday, September 26, at 12:30 p.m.
Lecture: Becoming Evil: How Ordinary People Commit Genocide and Mass Atrocity
Bristol Community College Fall River Campus, Jackson Arts Center (H building), room H209
Keynote Speaker: Dr. James Waller, Professor of the Holocaust and Genocide Studies, Keene State College, N.H.

*Co-sponsored with Bristol’s Colloquium Series A More Perfect Union: Bristol Stands Against Hate.

Sunday, October 13, from 2-4 p.m., with reception following the performance in the Grimshaw-Gudewicz Art Gallery (Bristol Fall River Campus), from 3:45 – 4:30 p.m.
Fundraiser Event: The Connecticut Opera Company presents The Emperor of Atlantis
Bristol Community College Fall River Campus, Jackson Arts Center (H building) Auditorium

Info: The Connecticut Lyric Opera presents the first production of its 2019-20 Season, the profoundly moving opera The Emperor of Atlantis by Jewish composer Viktor Ullmann and librettist Peter Kien. Ullmann and Kien collaborated on the opera while imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp. This event is not free and open to the community.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Kathleen Pearle, Dean of the Division of Social Science and Education at Bristol Community College.

Wednesday, October 23, from 12:30 – 1:45 p.m.
Lecture: The Armenian Genocide and the German Connection

Keynote Speaker: Manya Bark, independent Holocaust scholar and instructor at the Second Half Institute of Fall River.

Friday, October 25, from 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Echoes & Reflection Conference – Immigration and the Holocaust
Bristol Community College Fall River Campus, Siegel Health Technologies Building (C building), room C111.

Info: Echoes & Reflections’ provides educators an opportunity to explore the history of Jewish refugees and link the lessons of intolerance, apathy, and indifference to how we perceive today’s refugee crisis.
