After a three (3) year experiment that ended last September had been a success, the Block Island Ferry will be back in Fall River this summer.
Acording to Christian Meyers, the vessel operations manager for the Block Island Ferry, the trips from Fall River to Newport and then to Block Island will continue.
The Islander, a high-speed catamaran that can carry up to 300 people will leave for the first time at 8:30 a.m., Saturday June 24th from Fall River with a 9:30 a.m. stop in Newport than on to Block Island arriving at 6:10 p.m. The service is expected to continue until September 4th. To accommodate the service, city officials made parking available in the Pearl Street parking garage with a shuttle planned if it was necessary; however, most travelers were able to get secured parking at the State Pier for $10 dollars a day.
The first ferry took off from the State Pier on Water Street on June 21st, 2014. For more information on the continued service, interested travelers can visit Blockislandferry.com.

“We hope we have good summer weather,” Myers said. “When the weather is good, more people ride the boat.”
