John J. Sbrega, Ph.D., President of Bristol Community College has recently been appointed to the 2016 Taunton Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

Dr. Sbrega is a member of many regional and civic groups including chambers of commerce, economic development groups, and is a member and past chair of the 15 Massachusetts Community Colleges Presidents’ Council.

“I am proud to support the Taunton Area Chamber of Commerce which has always embraced BCC’s presence in the Taunton community. The College and Chamber both strive to improve the quality of life in the community through leadership and education,” said Dr. Sbrega.

Since Dr. Sbrega became President in July of 2000, Bristol Community College has experienced record enrollment growth of more than 80 percent. The College has been strengthened by unifying enrollment functions and services to better serve students.

Dr. Sbrega holds an A.B. from Union College and a Ph.D. and M.A. in history from Georgetown University. He is the recipient of two Fulbright Scholarships; the first was at the London School of Economics and Political Science, and for the second, he traveled to Russia to meet with Russian educators and to speak about the higher education system in the United States with a focus on community colleges. He has published award-winning books and articles on U.S. foreign policy.
