Despite cold, rainy weather, Fall River residents waited on lines to cast their ballots in yesterday’s State Election. Board of Election Chairwoman Kelly Souza-Young said she was excited to see 40% of the city’s registered voters head to the polls; a higher percentage than her original 25% prediction at the start of the day. Here are some results of local interest:
6th Bristol District State Representative Carole Fiola (D) easily won a new term by a nearly 2-1 margin over opponent David Steinhof (R). This was Fiola’s fourth election win over a five year period and her third victory over Steinhof. In yesterday’s election Fiola took the Fall River vote with 6,305 votes to Steinhof’s 3,565.
Meanwhile…Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker and Lt. Governor Karen Polito (R) won in Fall River with a total of 12,720 votes, with 6,475 votes going to Democratic challenger Jay Gonzalez and his choice for Lt. Governor Quentin Palfrey.
Please Note: The votes cast by Fall River residents are unofficial. The Board of Elections Office has ten days to add write-ins and certify final numbers.
