Bristol Community College is excited about its growth in enrollment as classes open for the new academic year next Tuesday, September 5.
Bristol President Dr. Laura Douglas says in the past year the college has overcome the challenges created by the pandemic resulting in more students returning to in person learning.
The college is seeing an increase in enrollment due in part to new software that streamlines the enrollment process.
Bristol is also seeing a sharp increase in enrollment among adult learners without a degree thanks to the new MassReconnect program that allows those 25 and older to receive a free community college education.
Dr. Douglas says Bristol is working with other community colleges across Massachusetts on a proposal to provide free community college to all as early as next fall. This project still needs legislative approval and the okay from Governor Maura Healey before it would take effect.
The college is looking forward to opening its National Offshore Wind Institute in New Bedford this fall and offering a degree in offshore wind and providing supplemental training to those already working within the industry.
Bristol is also looking for students who are interested in exploring a career in supply chain management, a field made more relevant in the last few years.
There is still time for students to enroll in classes at Bristol for the fall. The college has an array of offerings that begin two weeks after the official start of the year through its Flex Start program.
