Schools in Fall River open in less than two weeks. FRCMedia is previewing the upcoming school year for the school districts that serve city students. Today, we will take a look at what’s in store for the Diocese of Fall River Catholic Schools Alliance this year.

The alliance oversees 18 schools from Attleboro to Cape Cod. Four of them are in Fall River: Espirito Santo on Everett Street, Holy Name on Pearce Street, Holy Trinity on Lamphor Street, and St Michael on Essex Street.

Superintendent Daniel Roy says the interest of parents in a Catholic education for their children remains consistent.

This past year, the diocese was forced to close St. Stanislaus school due to declining enrollment. Mr. Roy says 60 percent of St. Stan’s students have been transferred to other Catholic schools, where they can expereince innovative curricula like the STEM program at Holy Trinity.

Mr. Roy says the diocese makes it easier for parents to choose a private catholic education with little worry for how they will pay for it.

Those in Fall River seeking a high school option since the closure of Bishop Connolly, many have moved on to Bishop Stang in Dartmouth, which this year boasts an enrollment of 484 students.

Diocesan schools will open on August 26.
