According to news reports published today, an all-call alert had been issued to families of B.M.C. Durfee High School students in Fall River. The alert was in response to a threat made last night – which was one day after the high school shooting in Parkland, Florida that claimed the lives of seventeen people at a local high school there. The threat at Durfee was reported to administrators by a student who said someone had posted on social media that Durfee would be “Florida 2.”
Principal Matt Desmarais is quoted as saying that he was told about the threat by students, and that “out of an abundance of caution,” he has decided to elevate police presence on campus throughout the day.
Reportedly, some parents are deciding not to send their children to school, while others like former School Committee Member Melissa Panchley tells FRC Media News that while she is nervous as a parent concerning the safety of her high school aged children, she has faith in the Durfee leadership and, therefore, allowed her children to attend classes.
FRC Media news will have more updates as they become available.
