FALL RIVER, MA – The busy season continues at Narrows Center for the Arts. Coming up in August are 11 nights of diverse concerts and events. From nationally acclaimed acts to local favorites, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

UPCOMING CONCERTS

Wednesday, August 2, 2023 – Béla Fleck My Bluegrass Heart ft. Michael Cleveland, Sierra Hull, Justin Moses, Mark Schatz, Bryan Sutton

Just in case you aren’t familiar with Béla Fleck, there are many who say he’s the premiere banjo player in the world. Others claim that Béla has virtually reinvented the image and the sound of the banjo through a remarkable performing and recording career that has taken him all over the musical map and on a range of solo projects and collaborations. If you are familiar with Béla, you know that he just loves to play the banjo, and put it into unique settings.

Friday, August 4, 2023 – Jesse Cook

An accomplished guitarist, producer and equally prolific filmmaker, Jesse Cook has evolved his talents to create experiences that delight audiences both in concert, and online. Jesse and his extraordinary band are looking forward to returning to the road, bringing The Libre Tour and their unique brand of rhythm and rhumba to audiences across North America and beyond.

Friday, August 11, 2023 – Cowboy Mouth

Much like gumbo, the famous dish of their hometown, the New Orleans-born Cowboy Mouth uses a potent blend of musical ingredients – rock, blues, punk, funk, country, pop, soul and whatever else feels good – to create their bodacious, kickass tunes. Frontman, drummer, and co-founder Fred LeBlanc has asserted “if The Neville Brothers and The Clash had a baby, it would be Cowboy Mouth.” His description not only reflects the group’s amazing diverse sound, but it also conveys the fire and commitment they bring to their music.

Saturday, August 12, 2023 -Calexico Feast of Wire 20th Anniversary Tour

In early 2003, Calexico released their seminal album ‘Feast of Wire’, the album that truly marked the duo’s critical and commercial breakthrough. Beginning in June, the band will play a series of headline shows across the year performing the landmark ‘Feast of Wire’ in full as well as a slew of beloved songs from the band’s full repertoire.

Thursday, August 17, 2023 – Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band

Peter Rowan … Grammy-award winner and six-time Grammy nominee, Peter Rowan is a bluegrass singer-songwriter with a career spanning over five decades. From his early years playing under the tutelage of bluegrass patriarch Bill Monroe, Peter’s stint in Old & In the Way with Jerry Garcia and his subsequent breakout as both a solo performer and bandleader, Rowan has built a devoted, international fan base through his continuous stream of original recordings, collaborative projects, and constant touring.

Friday, August 18, 2023 – Honey Island Swamp Band

New Orleans, LA or San Francisco, CA- From the pristine waters of the Honey Island Swamp, to the vibrant streets of New Orleans, to the hazy corner of Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco, this band has endured devastation, relocation, and revitalization. A group whose sound has been tagged “Bayou Americana,” the Honey Island Swamp Band takes the hammer to the nail.

Saturday, August 19, 2023 – Pousette Dart Band

Jon Pousette-Dart is best known as an American classic and folk rock songwriter, musician, and performing artist. Growing up in Suffern, NY with a household of artists, including his father, grandfather, and sister, he separated himself by picking up a guitar at the age of 10 and mapping out a life in music before he ever attended a little league game. Since then it’s been a long and well-traveled road in the world of music.

Friday, August 25, 2023 – NRBQ

NRBQ is Terry Adams, Scott Ligon, Casey McDonough, and John Perrin. “NRBQ,” which stands for New Rhythm and Blues Quartet, has often been called a national treasure, which may be why the band’s music has attracted legions of devoted fans worldwide, including Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Costello, Penn & Teller, Doc Pomus, R.E.M., SpongeBob SquarePants, Michael J. Pollard, Ian McLagan, Steve Earle, Drew Carey, and Nick Lowe, among many others.

Saturday, August 26, 2023 – Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore with The Guilty Ones plus special guest Dead Rock West

Roots music legends, the Grammy winning Dave Alvin and Grammy nominee, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, decided to join forces and play music together in 2017. Though Texas born Gilmore was twice named Country Artist of the Year by Rolling Stone, and California native Alvin first came to fame in the hard rocking rhythm and blues band The Blasters, they discovered that their musical roots in old blues and folk music are exactly the same. Since that discovery, Dave Alvin & Jimmie Dale Gilmore have recorded music and continued to tour together with their band The Guilty Ones, swapping songs, telling stories, and sharing their life experiences on stage.

Sunday, August 27, 2023 – Narrows Center Music Festival ft. GA-20, Brian Dunne, Ali McGuirk (FREE)

The Narrows Music Festival is back, this time featuring GA-20, Brian Dunne, and Ali McGuirk. Located at the Thomas Norton City Pier on Davol St. from 4-8:30 pm. You can expect a night of stellar music, good vibes and great fun. Food and beverages will be available to purchase. Feel free to bring a lawn chair or a blanket!

“Bridges”

Selected Works from the Core Members of Fountain Street Gallery, Boston. In “Bridges,” an exhibition of painting, photography, sculpture and mixed media, twenty-five artists share their interpretations of the theme of building connections.

The Narrows Center for the Arts, located at 16 Anawan Street in Fall River, MA, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Narrows exhibits visual artwork of every medium in two art galleries and houses a 430-seat

concert space showcasing international, national and local performers of various musical genres. Offering arts educational programming, local school tours, artist studio spaces and free festivals for the community, the Narrows proudly presents an ever-growing access and fellowship in the arts.
