There was an increased police presence at B.M.C. Durfee High School in Fall River today, due to an alleged gun threat that was reported to officials Monday night.
School Superintendent Matthew Malone said in a news release that a sweep of the building was conducted earlier this morning, and “nothing out of the ordinary was found.”
According to police, the threat allegedly took place in a group text discussion Monday evening. School personnel, after hearing about the incident, contacted police and school district officials. Following a threat assessment it was determined that Durfee did not need to close today.
“Out of an abundance of caution, procedures were immediately implemented to communicate with parents and faculty, and a plan to ensure a safe school opening was put into place,” Malone said via a statement to the news media.
On Tuesday morning a police cruiser could be seen in front of the school. Other law enforcement personnel were seen in the area of the school as well.
