There has been plenty of discussion in Fall River about the need for more affordable housing. One developer is converting the former St. Louis School on Division Street into 18 affordable workforce condominiums.
Lucian McPherson says his passion in converting distressed properties in cities like Fall River into workforce housing arose from seeing his single mom attempt, and fail to afford a home in Boston.
The condos in the St. Louis School consist of nine one-bedroom and nine two-bedroom units with a sales price between $188,000 and $262,000 based on a family’s area median income. Mr. McPherson says the quality of the units compares to those in upscale neighborhoods in Boston.
Fall River residents will be given priority in purchasing the housing units. Those interested must apply by May 20. A lottery to sell the units will take place on June 3. Applicants should be pre-approved for mortgages when they apply. For more information on the project and to apply for a unit, visit https://sebhousing.com/property/st-louis-schoolhouse/
